Wondering what people would do in this spot:
Let's say 40bb's, standard mix of tag/lag players FR, early tourney so everyones decently stacked, and you look down at :Ax :Qx utg.
Thoughts? I know what i'd do but i'll let people post their opinions first.

Obviously early in a tourny the pot is gonna be contested.. Which forces you to play against made hands, it's not worth it so you should wait.. Even with having a decent hand like that, a pair that turns into a set will wreck you

Raise. (but fold AJ) This is my opinion with no information on table. You can also argue a fold in this case, either is fine imo.

I don't think you're gaining or losing very much. Two things I'd like to know are:
Is there ante's?
How good is the structure?
If there's ante's its a lot more favorable to raise because you're picking up some extra chips in uncontested pots and pots you win. If the structure is bad I'm more inclined to play this hand because I'm less likely to get a better spot. I'm not really looking to go crazy with it preflop unless its a really aggressive LAG out of the blinds or on the button or something. When I hit the flop I'm pretty much going broke and fairly content so I'm probably raising.

Is the AQ suited or not, if it's suited you can't go wrong by raising it, if not raising it would only ever be a small mistake, if at all. Therefore I'm in the raise it camp.

Super nitty to fold this imo. If it's early stages then 40bbs can turn into 10 really fast. You need to play some hands to keep ahead of the structure.
