Where can American/US players play online poker?

Hi all. Following the recent online poker ban for US players on PokerStars and Full Tilt, I'm looking for the next best thing! Playing online poker in the US was a pain in the butt and now it's just near damn impossible.

So basically what I'm asking is if anyone knows where a US player can deposit safely or at least just play a hand on the internet? I don't want my funds frozen or account suspended so a pretty secure online poker website for American players would be great.

UPDATE: I've found out that Carbon Poker is now the #1 online poker site for US players

Hey Ryan, Carbon Poker is still open for business in the US. They've actually promised publicly that their US players won't be affected from the recent **** storm on Stars, Full Tilt and Absolute.

So it's not all bad for US players and getting online is still possible - it looks like Carbon Poker is going to be flooded with more players than ever now. Hope that helps anyway and good luck at the tables!

No problem mate. Stickied this thread seeing as your question is a burning one! To be honest I'm still amazed that the US gov haven't looked at this online poker issue more in the past. Pretty sure I remember Obama mentioning that he would look to legalise online poker but that seems to be dead in the water now.

Speculation is rising that the US gov may look to allow players to play online in poker rooms that accepted American players only and where the companies operated on US shores. I think with a deficit the size of the one in the States, being able to tax the billion dollar industry that is online poker wouldn't be a terrible idea.

Anyway, I digress - Carbon Poker is the place to play online poker if you're from the US. That's the long and short of it.

Pates - do you think their promise that US players won't be affected means anything? i.e., what makes them different from Stars, FT or AB? Don't you think it is obvious that they're next?

To be completely honest with you I'm not sure. It seems odd that they think they will get away with it but they have promised. I would just avoid depositing big sums in there and just have a little go at it instead.

Concur with the strategy - if you are going to do it:

1) Limit Deposits
2) Cash out quickly
3) Be sure to declare any net winnings on your taxes

Overall - proceed with caution.

There are many folks I have empathy for:

a) Skilled players who have built their careers around either making their living or supplementing their living by online poker
b) thousands of people who are employed indirectly by the industry (e.g., Card Player magazine, Bluff Poker, Hat maufacturers, etc)
c) Hobby players who don't have access to B&M casinos

There are folks that I am relieved for:
a) Underage gamblers - and there are tons of these
b) Addicted gamblers who have ruined their lives

There are folks that I have no empathy for:
a) BOT users
b) Colluders and Cheaters - including BOT users

That being said, I do not understand how poker got more attention then illegal prescriptions over the internet, on-line porn and terrorists organizations. Seems to me that if you want to make an argument that somehow the use of the web needs to be regulated (and I think a reasonable person could make that argument whether or not I agree with it) that there are more rational places to start.

Chances are that the US government will continue the ban on online poker. However as mentioned above, some sites are still available to US citizens who want to play online poker. It'll be interesting to see the developments from the States, but I would imagine that online poker is out the window for the foreseeable future

Hi Ryan, I have found a site with a list of more US poker rooms. Luckily there is still hope for all us American online poker players!

[Is Poker Rigged?]

There are still plenty of sites that accept US players. Here are all the networks of a reasonable size that do - Merge Network (includes carbon as said before), Cake Network, Everleaf Network, Bodog (for the rest of the year anyway).

In theory any of these could be shut down quite quickly so... don't have too much money tied up in an account and cash-out when you win!
