light bulb The Film Thread

Instead of bunging stuff in the top 5 films thread, this can be a thread for any recent film you've seen, or news etc

I watched Inglorious Basterds yesterday. I'm a big Tarintino fan, and given the way the film has been marketed, I was expecting a war film, and to be disappointed because I didn't want that from him. It turns out I wasn't disappointed, as he successfully blended the war genre with some brilliant drama, black comedy and some action. All of the Tarintino trademarks were there - the foot-fetish, the boot shot, and mexican stand-off - some of which were painfully missing from his last full length film DeathProof, as well as a superb soundtrack as per normal. Some of the scenes can be long and very hard work, but brilliant acting from the ensemble cast - especially the two German leads Daniel Bruhl and Christoph Waltz - keep the film engaging. The film's trump card is that the titular Basterds are not actually the main focus of the film - 'Shosanna''s storyline of revenge is the most developed, as is her character. The scenes that feature the Basterds are often comical, and provide light relief for the evident horrors of war. My main criticism of the film is that the characters of the Basterds are not fleshed out enough, especially after we are first introduced to them for the second chapter, and considering that Brad Pitt is the male lead, but the rope mark around his mark is never explained. The film can easily be seen as hard work, but there are by far more rewarding moments, particularly in the form of the Italian language. 9/10

On a related note, I won tickets to the London premiere of the film. However, as I didn't access to the internet for a few days, I didn't get back to the competition organisers in time and forfeited my prize. Definitely a FML moment.

Fav films have got to include Die hard. No questions asked.
Die Hard 2 is my personal fave of the series, but a lot of people said they didn't like it.

die hard 2 is by far the worst of the 4.

3 is best, then 4 is a close second, then 1, then 2.
