Reading Festival
Just got back from Reading. Just thought i'd say a few things about it.
- Was my first ever full weekend at a festival and I absolutely loved it. Drinking, camping, full days of music. ![]() - In general the wireless music system (particularly on main stage) was a bit dissapointing. - Line up seemed a lot more indie and mainstream than previous lineups, which is a bit ghey. - Friday: 1. Alexisonfire = Very good but much better when they played in a smaller tent later on 2. New Found Glory = Great fun! Played a load of their old tunes, reminded me of being 13! ![]() 3. Funeral for a friend = Very good, despite the whole sound going half way through the set! They recovered well and sounded class. 4. Fall Out Boy = Sounded a hell of a lot better than when I saw them last (when they were **** and really pissed me off), still not brilliant though, did a really cool cover of Midnight train by Journey ![]() 5. Florence and the Machines = not a massive fan but they sounded really good actually. 6. Kings of Leon = LOL. Utter toss, bland ****e. No crowd interaction apart from telling everyone to **** off for being too 'cold.' Honestly he was like a little petulant child. Definately not ready to headline, 2 massive singles doesn't qualify you for that surely?? Saturday 1. Fightstar = Pretty damn good, managed to get the crowd going even early on which is a great effort. 2. Enter Shikari = Qualityyyyyy, loved every minute of this set, so much energy, everyone jus havin a good time. Check out the video of their set on bbc, last song with a ridiculous number of crowd surfers was class. Even though they don't sound perfect live (by any stretch of the imagination) they were probably my favourite act of the weekend. 3. You Me At Six = I love this band, didn't love the set though. Missed out a load of my favourite songs and ended up jus getting crushed by a load of 15 year old screaming girls. Also got nailed in the face by some little emo **** who decided to windmill in the smallest pit you've ever seen. ****. 4. Mad Caddies, Thursday and Rise Against = Stayed in the 'lock up stage' for the rest of the night and checked out these lot, even though I only knew a few songs from each band I really enjoyed them. ![]() Sunday 1. Kids in Glass Houses = Seen these guys before supporting some band and they are definately worth checking out. 2. In Case Of Fire = My mate recommended this up and coming northern irish trio and they are decent. 3. Brand New = ****. Massive dissapointment. I own 3/4 albums from these guys and they played 2 songs I knew. So pissed off, the setlist they chose was really damn dull and they have got some absolute tunesssssssss. 4. Bloc Party = Really enjoyed this, sounded good and the lead singer is a very good frontman. 5. LostProphets = Good fun, nice way to finish the weekend, not the biggest fan of them but I love a few of their songs so managed to go pretty mental for them. I obviously haven't put every band I saw cos this is long enough as it is. But yeah overall: Kings of Leon are ****s and Enter Shikari are awesome. gg.

i would neg-rep you for not seeing them crooked vultures. i considered getting a ticket mainly for radiohead and maybe one or two others, bit annoyed i didn't now seeing as several of my mates went up last minute (£120 for tickets from a tout on the door?!?!)
glad you had fun though. i myself am off to bestival in just over a week, which will easily prove to be the highlight of my my shoddy summer.

Was also there. Radiohead where great as were them crooked vultures!
Although for me the highlight was when punkish metal band Gallows brought their mums on to say hello and then got a circle pit going round the sound desk. That and managing to carry 4 beers through the prodigy crowd to my mates without spilling a drop. KOL where pretty dull, sounded very much like the records but they didn't have much going on or crowd interaction. That said Radiohead said about 10 words between songs and where still amazing! Arctic Monkeys were pretty dull as well. |

I went to Reading '06 I think. Would you go again? Personally I can't put up with having my tent pissed on constantly and being high/pissed every waking moment. Was a great experience when I went but I'm happy with not going to festivals again. + the music has got wank since I went. The bands were mainstream before but it was mainstream rock and none of this indie bandwagon crap.
