so someone broke into my PayPal account last night...

i come home last night and check my email as always and find an email from paypal that says "thank you for your purchase to GAIA online"

im thinking wtf is gaia online?
so i google it and see its some anime, manga website.

i go check my paypal and someone has gotten into my account and spent 40 dollars on "player points" for the website...

obviously i call paypal and say i have a fraudulent charge on my account and they tell me they will have to freeze all my money until the "investigation" is complete in 7-10 business days...at which time they will refund my money regardless of what the investigation finds.

so im thinking my password to paypal was the same password i use here, as well as maxima.org and sfmaximas.org (my car forums).
not to mention Pstars and Fulltilt....

i think it was possibly a mod from maxima.org ****ing around with me because of my views on george bush (they are all pretty right wing over there and have temp banned me from time to time) - i guess i should consider myself lucky they didnt overdraft my account, or change the password or something more serious.

anyway, moral of the story is MAKE ALL OF YOUR PASSWORDS DIFFERENT FOR EACH SITE.
i now have three rotating passwords, one for level 1 security, like online banking and credit reports; level 2 for online poker and paypal and email; and level 3 for forums and other random sites.

and i was supposed to paypal a kid $70 today for a polished valve cover for my car....guess hes gonna sell it to someone else now....****.

oh yea, and this happens just two weeks after there was a "security risk" with my bank accounts at bank of america from using a non-banking ATM at a scummy casino.....

BOA had to freeze all my accounts and issue me new cards and account numbers. no money was taken thank god.

so, another point, avoid using your ATM pin code as often as possible.
if you are at the supermarket or retaurant or gas station, and they ask "debit or credit?", always pick credit.

Is there anyway to trace who spent the money? You could get that mod in **** if it really was him. I can't imagine he'd have access to your passwords anyway??? You seem to have had a lot of **** like this before, really unlucky. Hopefully it gets sorted quick mate. $40 is surprisingly small though! just as well.

they said they will do their best to let me know where the computer was that logged into my account, but its pretty meaningless in the end. i still wont ever really know who did it.

do mods not have access to players passwords?
maxima.org is the same EXACT format as this site, so if you cant see my password for getting in there, i assume they cant over there.
can you?

Na, passwords always stay anonymous. Which is why I cant imagine a mod being able to do that to you. Manga/Hentai just sounds like a dodgy person over in Asia did some sort of hacking some how. Surprised they kept it small, I guess maybe they didnt want to arouse suspicion.

plus, i think its a pretty odd coincidence in timing...

remember earlier this week i had that issue of overdrafting my account for the first time in 2 years? and that was for $41.50.

my original deposit onto paypal last week was $40....

plus i called paypal like 5 times from sunday to tuesday, trying to figure out what the **** happened and seeing if i could get my overdraft fees back from the bank....

just a strange coincidence that 4 days later my account gets broken into..and they manage to take out the exact amount of my most recent deposit ($40)....

wtf is going on

Sounds like they were trying to disguise the payment and hope you'd assume it was the paypal transfer.
