Deep in a tournament... What do you do?
Ok, this is purely hypothetical. I wanted to see what opinions you guys had on this hand.
So you're deep in a tournament. Blinds are 10k/20k and you're 3rd in chips with 1.5 mill. The table you're sitting on has the chip leader. You're delt AKs in mid position. You raise to 50k, a short stack goes all in for 100k and the BB who is the CL reraises to 500k. Background on tournament: - You've been playing with CL for 2 hours. He has seemingly been playing tight aggressive and has had very few showdowns. - $55 buyin. - 25 left out of 1000. - You're in $200 cash bracket. - Next bracket is $400 at 20 runners. - You've got 8 players on your table. - The site is rigged. What do you do? Answer the poll and then explain why in this thread! I'm interested to see strategies! |

i'd probly re-shove there. his squeezing range is far lower than his flatting range, id be much less inclined to come over the top if he just smooth called the allin from shorty.

Personally I fold. You've committed only 50k to the pot. Villain could be squeezing here and let's be honest, if he was doing it with AT or something and you double up then you'll be a HUGE chip leader. I don't think it's worth the risk for a race here or even domination because you've put in 2.5bbs and he's asking for 25 more.
If he is doing this with some mid pocket then I think a stop and go wouldn't be a bad strategy. |

i fold... Why? Assuming the CL isnt dumb he knows your in the pot. He knows you have a big stack that could hurt his. His range ... yes is pretty wide but the only hand your dominating here is AQ which im not even sure if it would be played this way. So we are most likely up against 88+ in pockets and MAYB KK AA which means most of the times your going to be flipping. Now we have been playing for a long time and i would feel that i have a advantage over the field, i wouldnt want to be flipping for my tourny life this late to the end.. i would definitely wait for a better spot because if you push over the top CL is pretty much calling you have no fold equity tbh.

You have to fold. I can't think of any situation where it would be smart to shove here. KK or AA is another story... You will pretty much definately get called unless he's pulling off some hugely tricky move so you have to pray that he has 88-QQ and that you spike an A or K.

Before I read the replies (and answered the poll) I thought shove all in. But now I have to agree with the majority. Maybe I'll remember that for next time (if ever) im deep in a tournament

Its either an all in or fold situation before the flop. The guy probably has a PP, JJ+, doesn't really matter how big it is unless its KK or AA. The best situation u could be up against is a coinflip, ( i do not think anyone would raise to 500k with aq for example), u either go all in or fold. I woudl probably fold, but it is a lot easier said than done. If this was a FT, i would push probably.
