Dusk Till Dawn Card Room

This DTD Poker Room review, is based on my own personal experience and from others.

The DTD poker room is in Nottingham, England. The card club was opened for business in April 2007 and was quickly thrown into the lime light as "the best card club in Europe". Such a bold title for just a card room on the outskirts of Nottingham had to be investigated!

On arriving at DTD, you notice a huge Las Vegas style entrance with a Dusk Till Dawn banner and pillars to match. This conveniently distract your eyes from the big grey warehouse which it actually is.

Once inside the club, it is a completely different story.

The club is essentially a giant, tiered room with tables staggering up to the back. There is a live TV final table that sits at the bottom of the tiers and then rows upon rows of top quality poker tables can be seen behind. Top quality is obviously something that the club has a lot of pride in,and pretty much sums up the aesthetics and furnishings found there. Quality certainly doesn't just stop at the custom table designs. The chairs, the chips and the dealers are all outstanding. Even the toilets don't look out of place amongst the luxurious setting of the club. There is a bar in the corner of the club and waitresses patrol between the tables, prices are generally cheap except I was shocked to find a cheeky 50p service charge thrown in when I ordered tap water from my seat. A good, comfortable sitting area surrounds the bar with magazines to pass the time while you wait around for your seat. Dusk Till Dawn also offer their very own online poker room, appropriately named "DTD Poker" which can be found at one of the computers surrounding the main room.

Unlike a lot of card clubs and casinos, some poker games can be self dealt, especially at the lower stakes. DTD ensures that if ever there is a table open, there will be a dealer. The dealers are well trained, friendly and keep the games flowing at a good pace. Directors are also on around and ready to make official rulings if need be. Due to all the tables being dealer dealt, it isn't uncommon to be waiting 30 minutes or up to an hour for a new table to be set up or your seat to open.
The club itself is managed by poker play and poker commentator Simon Trumper, who is often seen on Late Night Poker, a TV show broadcasted in the UK. He does a great job at organising and announcing upcoming events inside and outside the card room; events that range from ?25+5 all the way up to ?300 tournaments. The card club also has a number of cash tables and SNGs running all the time from small stakes of ?0.50/?1.00 to ?2/?4 and sometimes higher.

It's not uncommon to see a celebrity poker player sitting down at one of the tables and this helps to attract the flurry of players that turn up each night. You can even go on a training course at the "Poker Academy" with Paul 'actionjack' Jackson who has been referred to as "one of the most successful online tournament players in the world".

The Dusk Till Dawn card room is slightly disappointing when you go expecting the absolute best, but perhaps "the best card club in Europe" is a fitting description. The one downfall of the club is the location. If you're driving, it's easy to get to as it's next to a main road. However, it is out of the way of the city and isn't somewhere you could walk to after a night out or for a casual game. If you're driving from London or even further afield, don't be put off by the distance, Nottingham is a great city with plenty of things to do. Drive up for the weekend and enjoy the poker, the nightlife and the city itself.

And don't worry; there will always be players to play with and dealers to deal.

Great review PlateFish. I have been a couple of times myself and have to agree with everything you say. Brilliant place! Does look a bit tacky on the outside though
