    I'm a NOOB...

Hello to all, I'm fairly new to the game of poker. I've been playing for a few years, not as serious as some of you. I starting taking poker seriously in the past 6-7 months, playing cash games every other week at my house. Starting to play online in PS, its an up and down experience like a roller coaster. Since I'm new to this I hope you guys/girls dont feel hassled by me bombarding some of you with 1000's of questions. First article I read was the one by Rockart, asking about online poker being rigged...Great article ROCK (props to you), this is one of the reasons I wanted to join the club. I'm learning a lot, reading and listening to different podcast to enhance my game. I feel like a sponge right not, just absorbing all info I can.

    BTW wadahellisafish?

Looking forward to the questions you have to ask mate. Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy your time here. Well done for taking the step to play poker seriously, took me several years to do it!

    Good luck

Well, harrington on holdem is very old school but still will improve your game to a solid level. theory of poker by david sklansky is meant to be very good as well. I think there is no substitute for playing though. You will learn the most playing! What stakes are you playing at the moment?

I agree with James. If you want to get a solid grip on the game, Sklansky's Theory of Poker is required reading. Likewise Harrington on Hold'em is great for tournament play. I hear he has a cash game series now too, but I haven't read them.

If you're thinking about Sit N Goes (my personal favorite) I'd add Colin Moshman's Sit N Go Strategy. It really took my game to the next level.

    Fish???

What is a fish? I tried looking for the term couldnt find one. I'm guessing its I call a wreckless/aggressive player?

In-reply to James, I have been playing .10/.25. But this past week I've mostly been playing heads-up. Low end 11.25 and 6.25 believe (Im at work right now, couldnt tell you exactly).

"Fish" is a term used to describe a weak player that's easy to beat.

Wreckless/Aggressive players are usually called LAGtards (short for loose-aggressive retards) or donkeys. Don't worry, you'll pick up on the jargon soon enough.

ah thats a nice base to start one! heads up is the funnest kind of poker i find, very intense though and i dont play it so much now because i tilt quite easily! Do you have a large bankroll? I find one of the main things that will improve a players game is solid bankroll management, i know Platefish will back me up on this!

    Bankroll

My bankroll is on a diet, I'm trying to beef it up. I dont have that type of cash right now.
Another question for the experts here, how long did it take you before you were in the green consistently (did it take months, years etc...)? Right now I'm in the red, not by much. But my winnings are very inconsistent. My biggest problem in cash games is that I start out on fire, some where down the line I get extinguished. I dont have the discipline to leave the table, like I should. Do you guys have like a little voice that tells you hey its time to move to the next table?
