This hand came up early in an SNG for me today. I wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

Looks to me like he has a jack. I like your raise on the turn to get some info. Tbh there's always a chance that he is doing this with an FD or 88/99 or even 9T so it's not a definite muck.
Mucking the turn would be a lot easier if you made a c-bet; the flop is pretty damn safe. On the turn he actually has some fold equity to ship it in as your raise isn't that big relative to the pot.
What happened? So many jacks fall in his range here as he's the last 1 to make the call with loads of value.
Yeah, this was a tough decision for me. I didn't want to c-bet because I was facing three callers and I was worried about QJ, JT, etc. UTG's baby bet on the turn gave me the perfect chance to make a small raise to find out where I stood. If either of the other two called me, I would have been done with the hand. I wasn't expecting the re-raise all-in though.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
Yeah lead the flop. Makes the hand easier, i think you have to call in the end. Too much in the pot, he could just have 66-99
Still cant beleive bridge thought it was a sit and go. freak of medic nature.
About leading the flop and raising the turn.
If you lead the flop you're leading 400 into a 650 pot. The board is dry and tbh, you really just want to take it down there and then with TT. There's no draws out or anything and you have position on one of the players.
If you check flop then you're letting people catch up and also allowing someone to bet into you and playing the aggressor. The guy might have![]()
and you're a fair bit ahead, but he has the chance to get you to fold the best hand.
The decision to bet 400 on the flop makes the turn and river easier to play. By checking you open yourself up to all sorts of bluffs etc.
There are 2 other jacks in the deck. A jack definitely falls into all these players' ranges but it's still unlikely that in 6 cards someone has a jack. If you lead out and someone smooth calls on that dry board then it's checking and calling (or even folding) line from there on.
I think in this situation I'd like to lean towards just calling the turn and call/folding river depending on the bet size.
That advice makes sense, but what would you do if you knew one of your opponents would raise call/raise a c-bet with any two? The chances the pfr has a Jack are pretty slim and a raise would make it hard for a pocket pair to call.
Raising c-bets were the order of the day in this game. I though a c/r would give me more information. In retrospect it probably was a little too aggro in this stage of the game.
Like you guys pointed out, I had his range on a small-mid pocket pair or any Ax diamonds. Given the money in the pot, I figured I had no choice but to call. He showed the FD and I took it down.
I'm not real happy with the way I played the hand, but I wanted a second opinion. In particular, I was wondering how many would lead this flop into three opponents. Thanks for the advice!
ship it pre!
but playing normally, i'd go with a c/c on the flop, which in your case gave you nowt, so i'd bet stronger on the turn. i think you'd the same result, someone shipping it, and you would have to fold, really.
Also entirely agree with the floating out of position thing, it sounds like something Jeremy would do.
Raising c-bets can get very frustrating. If villain in this hand is very tight and has a really low AF then I'd probably call/check/value river down after checking the flop. What's so fishy about this hand is that he was UTG so he'd check a J on the flop every day, then it seems like he was begging for action with a min bet on the turn.
I wouldn't beat yourself up on this hand, I think you played it well and the only slight thing I'd likely do differently is c-bet. Usually with things like this, it just comes down to how it feels at the time. Look forward to seeing what you did.
I called. I figured with around $600 to win $2000 I had little choice. I felt like he'd make that move with any PP or the FD as well as a jack. I only had to be right a little more than 1 in 4 times to make the call profitable, so I did.
He flipped up the FD and I took it down. Great result, but the hand left a bad taste in my mouth.
^ I like this call. I would have done the same.
EDIT: Obviously I only say that once knowing the result![]()
